The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) has found the Knox County Board of DD as providing an exceptional level of services and has provided the County Board with a five-year accreditation. This is the highest-level accreditation that can be awarded. The accreditation found that the Knox County Board complied with all standards set forth by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities and the team recommended that the Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities apply for the “Areas of Excellence” citing exceptional standards in monitoring and an exemplary Early Intervention program as just a few of the ways in which the Knox County Board is a leader in quality services. A five-year “Areas of Excellence” accreditation can be applied for only if a four-year is achieved. The Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities applied for this five-year accreditation and was awarded it. The five-year accreditation follows an extensive review conducted in July by a team that specializes in the rules and regulations governing county boards of Developmental Disabilities. The accreditation review is a very thorough and meticulous process that includes interviews and extensive records reviews. The Ohio Department of DD sets the standards of the different levels of accreditation based on 14 areas of the board’s programs and administration. This review found that the Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities achieved substantial compliance with the standards set forth by the DODD. The review team was also impressed with the way in which Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities creatively implemented best practices in all areas with a clear focus on self-determination. Ten years later, the Knox County Board of DD was established as the local government agency charged with the responsibility to serve and protect these same individuals and their families. Over the past forty years, the Board has filled many roles, doing whatever was necessary to help individuals live fulfilling lives and be welcomed as members of our community. As our residents' needs have changed and government regulations have evolved, the services and supports offered have changed to ensure that the Board continues to serve the best interests of individuals in Knox County.
