Early Intervention

If your child is not meeting their milestones, Early Intervention could be the key to getting them back on track! The Early Intervention program is a free service designed to meet the needs of eligible infants and toddlers birth through age two that are delayed in meeting milestones, have a developmental disability, or are at risk of having a developmental disability. Needs are met through individually designed plans, therapy services and by providing information and opportunities to enhance the child's development. Early Intervention Services are coordinated with other community agencies including the Knox County Health Department's Help Me Grow System, and the County Collaborative Group (CCG). Services are flexible, build upon family strengths and are responsive to family choice.

Meeting Milestones

What are developmental milestones?
Developmental milestones are a set of functional skills or age-specific tasks that most children can do at a certain age range. Development is different than growth.  Growth only refers to the child getting bigger in size whereas child development refers to how a child becomes able to do more complex things as they get older. Your pediatrician uses milestones to help check how your child is developing.  Although each milestone has an age level, the actual age when a typically developing child reaches that milestone can vary quite a bit.  Every child is unique! If you are concerned about your child's development, be sure to discuss it with your child's doctor.
